023 | Bomber pilot’s wife shares stories of World War 2

Graphic of Episode 23 of Heartsong Fit - World War 2 IndexSeveral of the episodes of Heartsong Fit include short stories by my mom, Lucille Maris. She shares her experiences from the 1940s when she was a young bride to my dad, Jim Maris. He flew multi-engine bombers out of Wendling, England in the 392nd bomb group during WW II. Dad trained in the B-17 and was later moved over to pilot a B-24. He flew 30 missions with his crew, the 2nd of which was D-Day.

I talk with her about their journey across the U.S. as Dad got his flight training in the US Army Air Corps, now the U.S. Air Force. She tells us how she dealt with the stresses of a military deployment of her spouse.

The stories are at the ends of the episodes I mention in the show. You’ll find a podcast player below that will make it easier to find the various episodes I mention in the index episode 23.

If you are new to the show, I hope you enjoy going back through these episodes that include her interesting stories about the war.
