Meet Vickie Maris

Vickie Mais is podcast host of Heartsong Fit with Vickie Maris Thanks for stopping in at the website! It’s my desire to help you run a fit business in which you are working within your purpose, and to lead a fit life. You’ll see that theme woven through my blog, podcast, Heartsong Fit With Vickie Maris, ebook, Social Media First Steps:  A Guide for Business, and other online products and services. I intertwine these themes with my passions for lifelong learning; for working smarter, not harder; for making the most of every moment. Keeping focused on fitness and health while also building my business, has been essential in order to stay healthy in my 50s and to stay sane when I was previously in a challenging work environment.

It is so important for us to stay agile and flexible in both a business and fitness sense so that we can keep learning, growing and serving one another as we advance toward our goals. I invite you to connect with me here on the website using the opt-in form to receive my updates, so that we can work together on this.

Opportunities to continue learning and growing professionally throughout my career have been such a value to me. Earning my certification from Purdue University as a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma has sure been an eye-opening adventure in which my career, employer, coaching clients and listeners have benefited. A Black Belt project, which I conducted in the course while earning my certification, realized a reduction in costs of $119,716 and a 70% reduction in process defects.

I have been honored to lead my staff team to a College of Engineering-level award for the design and successful implementation of a series of online courses in Lean Six Sigma.

More recently, I spoke at the Online Learning Consortium International Conference on the use of short-length lecture videos and professional, on-camera talent in online courses. The session was webcast to the online attendees of the conference.

One of my favorite classes to teach is Leadership Lessons Learned from Livestock. I have taught this session at the Conference on Management and Executive Development (CMED), and for several years running in the Technical Management Institute at Purdue University, which is a program sponsored jointly by the Krannert School of Management and the College of Engineering. I’ve also keynoted at the University of Texas – Austin Training Expo run by the Governor’s Center for Management Development. It is such a joy for me to watch learners make the connections with the concepts in this workshop as we converse about the natural ways animals form groups, protect and teach each other, interact with team leaders and more. Let’s connect so we can continue to share ideas and resources! Please visit the Contact page here in the website for the many channels in which we can keep connected.
