015 | Farrier Brad Bixler Shares About Managing Work Life on the Road Plus Interesting Travel Adventures

Photo of Brad Bixler, farrier, in Episode 15 of Heartsong Fit With Vickie MarisSpend time on our Dawn of Promise Farm, as I conduct an impromptu interview with our farrier, Brad Bixler. In addition to being a farrier (trims and shoes horses), Brad is also a journeyman pipefitter and adventurer who travels the world. This conversation out in the pony shed with my horse, Madison, over our shoulder, is both funny and interesting.

Life of a Journeyman Pipefitter

The episode starts with Brad finishing up a winter-time trim (occurs about every 6 – 8 weeks) of Madison, my Connemara horse. The conversation covers the life of a working man who travels around the United States to the location of the work. He is a journeyman pipefitter who has worked on the construction of hospitals, the building of Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Indiana (where the Indianapolis Colts play football), and natural gas plants.

Travel to See the World When Unemployed

Brad shares of his travel adventures that fill his downtime and keys to his ability to live life relatively stress free. He talks about setting goals and then visualizing yourself as having reached the goal and living in your changed life.

During the conversation, Madison, who is getting used to being the star of the podcast episodes, continues to interrupt and demand attention.

Lucille Maris Talks About Life on the Homefront During World War II

At the end of the episode, I interview my mom, Lucille, about her time in 1943 during World War II, as my dad, Jim Maris, was in flight training at George Army Air Field in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Mom lived with several other military wives in a small apartment in Vincennes, Indiana.
